SUNSON looks back at a year of progress in 2025

As 2025 comes to an end, it’s a good moment o look back at everything SUNSON has achieved this year.

The year started with the 4th Consortium Technical Meeting (M24), held online on January 14th and hosted by UPM, bringing together all partners to review progress across every Work Package. Just two weeks later, on January 30th SUNSON co-organised a workshop on high-temperature Concentrated Solar Power together with five other European projects, as part of the CSP Sisterhood Community,

In February SUNSON took part in TEDS2025, the Thermal Energy Decarbonization Summit, held in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where our partner IDENER presented a poster on the project’s latest advancements.

The middle of the year brought one of 2025’s biggest milestones: the General and Reporting Meeting in Rome, held in July. This gathering brought the entire consortium together to review results, discuss technical challenges and define the roadmap for the project’s next phases, complemented by a hands-on technical workshop at IONVAC’s facilities.

September closed the year’s main events with SUNSON’s participation in SolarPACES, held in Almería. The project’s coordinator, UPM, presented the latest results and technological advancements to the global solar thermal community, alongside a site visit to the Plataforma Solar de Almería (CIEMAT).

Throughout the year, SUNSON also kept its objectives clearly in focus by developing the solar-to-heat-to-power prototype, advancing the PCM-based thermal storage system, building the SUNSON-BOX demonstration, creating the SUNSON-TOOL digital platform, and conducting a holistic sustainability assessment of the project9s solutions.

Looking ahead to 2026, the project continues moving from concept to reality.
